Yet emerging science is incredibly complex, making it difficult for policymakers and diplomats to translate scientific foresight into meaningful decisions. GESDA needed a way to turn scientific anticipation into something leaders could actually engage with.

Childhood myopia is rapidly increasing worldwide. Digital therapies promised a solution, but maintaining long-term engagement among young patients proved difficult. Without consistent use, the therapy simply wouldn’t work.
The Human Insight
Through Emotiva™ research with families, we discovered a key dynamic:Children did not perceive therapy as healthcare — they experienced it as something imposed by adults.
Motivation came from autonomy, play, and visible progress — not instruction.
The Solution

BAT wanted to explore opportunities beyond nicotine, particularly in the rapidly growing mood and wellbeing space. But the category was already crowded with digital health and meditation apps. The real opportunity remained unclear.
